It's interesting you mention the subtlety of the book, where that's probably the biggest issue I had with the movie. I just don't think Luhrmann can do subtle, and it was too much of an assault on the senses for me to really enjoy. Nice review, Cristina (I didn't see a way to comment on the other site).
I don't think subtle is Luhrmann's style either. I think he'd be better suited for theater or a different more flashy medium like...I guess theater's the only other thing I can think of, haha.
