  1. How awkward for me that, as a Chilean, I didn't like the movie (my review is on my site), but you did.

  2. I don't think it's awkward at all. Geographically speaking, we come from different places and bring our cultural backgrounds into our interpretations of films we see. You obviously know more about the history of Chile and came into the film with some type of knowledge of it. I came into it with a completely uninformed attitude.

I also think America has a tendency to seek out and highlight foreign cinema when it parallels our own morals. "No" is about Chile's step towards a more liberated country. Americans love democratic ideologies and love it when they can connect in such ways to films outside the U.S.

Personally, while I didn't love the film, I enjoyed it. I thought Garcia Bernal was good as always and liked the history lesson.
